Does your 420 have two 20 amp fuse holders?
Need advise on how to bypass everything to see if I can get a pop. I spent all day on it - tracing every wire and writing it all down.

I can put 12v to the little term on the solenoid and it will crank over. I put 12v to positive coil - no spark.

Are all 6 terminals used on the ignition switch?
Diagram anyone?

Can I just put 12v to +coil and jump it or is there a risk of damaging
I got this 1983 420 home and it is in rough shape.
Is this correct: the ign switch has the normal 5 poles and then a 6th terminal pole up at the 11 o'clock posotion, close to outer rim. It had a green wire that goes to center term on the rectifier, is this correct?
The 2 terminals on the left had no wires (ign switch).

Also there is a jumper wire across the back of the Dashboard Display Panel DDP, on the bottom idiot light which is for gear/hydro indicator of some kind (i think). WHY would someone put a jumper here? Also there was another key switch hooked up inside - the old one is still in place but no wires attached.

ANY HELP or directions Will be greatly appreciated

Bryan,
Sure I can. I'll e-mail it to the address in your profile. I know, the pictures look good and then they have to be shrunk down to less than 100k, and that beats the crap out of the resolution. Can't complain though. If somebody wants better resolution, you send the image via e-mail.

The Schematic shows only 4 connections on the ignition switch - but my ign switch has 6 terminals.

Schematic shows ign switch terminals; A , B , S-1 , S-2 . MY switch has six terminals - S, A, B, R, M, 3 ?? The #3 terminal is above and close to edge away from the normal 5 terminal pattern of (picture this) "four car tires with a dash above. (I am trying to say what the back of the ign switch, terminals look like).
So I should hook - Pink & Red to A, then Lt Green & 12v Red to B, then S-1 solenoid purple to S term - then what?

Bryan,

Electrical is never easy, especially if somebody gets in there and starts to jury-rig everything to save a buck!

I looked at my 318 and there is a plug that connects everything to the ignition switch. I replaced the switch several years ago and it seemed to me that there were two plugs. I wish I could give you more info. On this, but I would have to tear everything apart to get at it.

I’m looking at the schematic and what I’m seeing is pink & 2 amp fuse to A. Purple & purple w/black to S2. Lt. Green & Red from 25A fuse to B and purple to S1. Now, I seem to remember that there were some unused terminals. Are you sure you have the original switch or one that was fudged in there? I may still have my old switch but only God knows where it is. I’m starting to think that the previous owner found a switch and cut the plugs off so he could wire it in with just spade connectors or whatever. Maybe a new wiring harness would be the way to go. Good luck!

Need anymore help just ask.

John,
Thanx. That confirms I have the same switch. 6 terminals total and mine only used 3 term, with a 4th terminal used on that perimeter terminal - (I call #6) it did have a green wire just pushed thru the hole on the spade of the terminal.

So now I am going to try Terminals S, B, A. as there is no S-1 or S-2 indicated on my switch.
